I am in disagreement with a native American about the meaning of a
sentence of his. He claims that I am misreading the following sentence:
"Vico sought to use history to free us from the oppressive norms of our
traditions without cutting the individual off from the collective
altogether, which he fearfully projected would lead that individual
toward the unmoored individualism recognized by Jung."
I understand it as Jung has acknowledged the "validity or legality" of
individualism. There is no ambiguity either, because in this context it
cannot be read as "identified by Jung". Who is correct?
