I can't remember if this has come up here before, but it has just
cropped up in another forum, and I thought I'd ask about it here.

A South African living in the USA writes:

"Some small fortunate thing happened to a friend this week, and I told
him he had "Fallen with his bum in the butter".  His response was to
look at me as though I had grown a second head with three eyes.

I had always assumed this was a common English expression, but it
seems to me now it is peculiarly (English) South African."

Are there any non-SAfE speakers here who are familiar with this
expression and use it?
